Enquiries by email or phone

When you contact us directly by email or phone, we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address, phone number, and the nature of your enquiry. We use this to respond to you and follow up on any business discussions.

Legal basis: legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR) — responding to prospective client enquiries.

Website visits

When you visit theengineroom.ie, our web server may log standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. This information is used solely for server security and performance purposes and is not used to identify individual visitors.

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other behavioural tracking or advertising technology on this website.

3. Cookies

Our website uses a small number of strictly necessary cookies to ensure it functions correctly. These are set by WordPress, the platform that powers our site.

The cookies we set include:

  • wordpress_test_cookie — checks that your browser accepts cookies; deleted when you close your browser
  • wordpress_logged_in_* — authenticates logged-in users (e.g. site administrators); not set for ordinary visitors
  • wp-settings-* — stores interface preferences for logged-in users only

These cookies do not track you across other websites and contain no personally identifiable information about ordinary visitors. No consent is required for strictly necessary cookies under Irish and EU law.

We do not use analytics cookies, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracking cookies.

4. Third-Party Services

Our website loads profile images from Gravatar (operated by Automattic Inc.), a service used by WordPress for author avatars. This may result in a request to secure.gravatar.com when certain pages are loaded. Automattic’s privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy.

We have no other third-party scripts, embeds, or tracking pixels on this website. We do not use external font services, social media embedded widgets, or advertising networks.

Our website is hosted by SiteGround. As our hosting provider, SiteGround processes server logs and technical data on our behalf. SiteGround’s privacy policy is available at siteground.com/privacy.html.

5. How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain email and phone enquiry data for as long as is necessary to respond to your enquiry and for a reasonable period thereafter, and in any case no longer than 3 years unless we enter into a business relationship with you.

Server logs are retained for a short period for security purposes and then deleted automatically.

6. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Our hosting provider, SiteGround, as a data processor for website infrastructure
  • Professional advisers (e.g. solicitors, accountants) where legally required

We do not share your data with marketing platforms, advertising networks, or data brokers.

7. International Transfers

Our hosting provider SiteGround operates data centres within the European Economic Area (EEA). Gravatar is operated by Automattic Inc. (US), which participates in data transfer mechanisms approved under EU law, including Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Your Rights

Under the GDPR and Irish data protection law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Request erasure of your data (the “right to be forgotten”)
  • Restrict or object to certain processing
  • Data portability — receive your data in a structured, commonly used format
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at cait.maguire@theengineroom.ie.

9. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (DPC), Ireland’s supervisory authority, at www.dataprotection.ie.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on our website. Where changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify you.
